As sustainability becomes a defining requirement for future communication networks, the European Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) ecosystem continues to advance a shared vision for greener, more responsible digital infrastructures.

We are pleased to announce that 6G-TWIN has contributed to the newly released SNS technical report, “Sustainable 6G by Design: An SNS-Driven Vision for AI-Native, System-Level Sustainability.”

The report explores how sustainability can be embedded into 6G systems from the outset, moving beyond isolated energy-efficiency improvements toward a comprehensive system-level approach that encompasses environmental, economic, and social sustainability dimensions.

Developed through a collaborative effort involving experts from academia, industry, research organisations, and SNS projects, the report reflects the collective knowledge and experience of the European 6G research community. It builds upon discussions initiated during the EuCNC & 6G Summit 2025 workshop on Technology Enablers for Sustainable 6G Design and contributes to the ongoing dialogue on making sustainability a fundamental property of future communication networks.

6G-TWIN is proud to be among the contributing projects that provided insights and expertise to this important work. Through its research on AI-driven network digital twins and intelligent network management, 6G-TWIN shares the ambition of enabling more efficient, adaptive, and sustainable 6G infrastructures.

The report brought together contributions from experts representing numerous SNS projects, including BeGREEN, 6Green, EXIGENCE, CENTRIC, SUSTAIN-6G, 6G-SANDBOX, 6G-GOALS, DESIRE6G, ORIGAMI, 6G-VERSUS, TrialsNet, HORSE, 6G-EWOC, and many others.

This publication represents another milestone in the SNS community’s efforts to ensure that sustainability is not treated as an afterthought, but rather as a core design principle for the networks of the future.
