Ayat Zaki Hindi from LIST and Chris Murphy from VIAVI Solutions Chris represented 6G-TWIN when they spoke on a panel on the emergence of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning in Standards at IEEE CSCN in Belgrade on Wednesday 27 November 2024.

Chris traced the interest in AI and ML in standards and industry bodies over the last few years through to today where digital twin underpinned by ML is emerging as a key enabler for communication. He also outlined the problems arising from data sensitivity leading to barriers to adoption of the technology. He mentioned the work being done in projects such as 6G-TWIN and in industry bodies such as Telecom Infra Project and AI-RAN Alliance to overcome these problems by bringing together operators, vendors and academia.

Ayat followed on with a detailed overview of the 6G-TWIN project, the work done so far and how the various objectives fit together to deliver a step forward in the state-of-the-art.

About IEEE CSCN

Standards play a key role in the success of the communications industry, as enablers of global systems inter-operability. IEEE CSCN aims for closing the gap between researchers, scientists and standards experts from academia, industry and different standardization bodies. It serves as a platform for presenting and discussing standards-related topics in the areas of communications, networking and related disciplines, facilitating standards development as well as cooperation among the key players. IEEE CSCN delivered high-quality technical as well as visionary papers, which were reviewed and selected by an international Technical Program Committee (TPC) representing both academia and industry, with a strong standardization background.
